The story of the game will offer a “new interpretation of the whole of the universe to the present time, are not linked to an existing iteration of Batman in games, movies or comics,” according to Telltale Games. The player will take the role of Batman as both the superhero and as Bruce Wayne, his alter-ego. The game will feature a story similar branching to other past Telltale games, giving the player options for how to approach a situation and have this choice affects subsequent events in the game. According to Telltale Game Kevin Bruner, the game will feature the player situations where they can choose to approach as Bruce Wayne and as Batman. Other characters include planned Alfred Pennyworth, Vicki Vale, James Gordon, and Renee Montoya.

The game will be made using a look “non-photorealistic” inspired by comic artist Jim Lee, Greg Capullo and Neal Adams. To answer this, Telltale updates its game engine to be able to produce results improved rendering.
